Tony Robbins: ‘I am Not Your Guru’ Review

Tony Robbins, I want to bear hug the guy.

A man who moves millions and is a pro at showing up and doing the work.

I watched I am not your guru on Netflix last week, a behind-the-scenes look at Tony Robbins Date with Destiny seminar, and was spellbound. His ability coupled with the sheer vulnerability of the participants made for a truly insightful peek into human nature.

Tony Robbins begin to live as though your prayers have already been answered quote

Tony Robbins is testament to the fact that telling your story gives other people the strength and inspiration to share, and heal theirs.

Anybody who is open and vulnerable enough to use their own experiences of suffering and share the insights of their healing process to elevate others has my full respect.

Tony Robbins: Date with Destiny

Day 1: Preparing for massive change

[Tweet “Change is the only constant”]

It truly is the only thing that takes us from where we are to where we claim to want to be. Also, it’s the one thing so many of us are so damn resistant to!

Change has us running back to safety. Clinging to our comfort zones and staying stuck in the same headspace, creating the same choices and the same reality.

We all know of someone who has gone from relationship to relationship, claiming this one will be different, only to watch them end it over the same old thing.

What about that argument you’ve been having with your sister that seems to be just as old as you are?

The only constant here is our behaviour. And a change in consciousness and the way we approach things is the only way to change behaviour.

[Tweet ““If we can realise that life is always happening for us, not to us… game over, all the pain and suffering disappears.” @tonyrobbins”]

This was one of my favourite take-aways from Day one: Everything and everyone is here to serve your self-growth, help you step up and claim the power which has always been yours.

Day 2 – strengthen and empower yourself

”Give me a child until he is 7 and I will show you the man” ~ Aristotle.

Tony flipped this one on it’s head with: [Tweet ”Heal the boy and the man will appear” @tonyrobbins “]

By the time children are 7 years old they’ve been programmed with all the subliminal messaging and the mental tapes that will influence the thoughts and behaviours that will direct their lives.

Most of the messages on these tapes stem from the insecurities and beliefs of their parents and peers.

The only way to disconnect from this programming is to write your own story. Tony encourages participants to really dig around and look at the patterns that have dictated their lives up until this point.

By bringing these patterns into the light and unpacking them, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, the participants are then able to build a new mindset and define new, empowering virtues on their own terms.

Day 3 – Crush what’s holding you back

Day 3 was all about looking at the choices you’ve made that have bought you here. Gaining an understanding of how your beliefs are serving you and which ones you need to change or let go of in order to live the life you dream of.

Many of us miss opportunities, avoid relationships and stifle our potential out of fear. The safety of the known reels us back in easily.

Identifying the blocks that hold you back is key to switching up your self talk and driving new behaviours that will serve your greatest good, allow you to get out of your head and unlock your potential.

[Tweet “Stay in your head, you’re dead. @tonyrobbins”]

Day 4 – Create your ultimate vision

Channeling the ‘future you’ and putting visualisation to work is the theme for Day 4. Visualisation is one of my favourite tools. [Tweet “Hold a thought for 17 seconds for the Law of Attraction kicks in. Hold a thought for 60 seconds and things start moving.”]

When you hold a positive though for 17 seconds it attracts another thought of the same frequency. The longer you hold the thought it attracts another. These two thoughts are said to coalesce and combust giving rise to more energy and attracting even more thoughts of the same vibration.

When getting into the headspace of who they want to be, the participants build a list of core values and also a mission statement to keep them in alignment with the energy of who they visualise themselves to be.

Powerful stuff!

Day 5  – Chart your course for greatness

Clarity and focus are two indispensable allies when paving a new path in any sector of your life. You need to know where you want to go, how you plan on getting there and the dedication to stay committed.

On day 5 participants learn to bring clarity to their newly built beliefs and weave it though their self-talk, desires and actions.

Tony guides participants to step into their light, reclaim their power and acknowledge themselves as the magical creators they are.

Day 6 – Revolutionise your relationships

Your relationships act as mirror for you. The coexistence of opposites is part of the nature of the universe and resides in us also. We can’t appreciate generosity without knowing stinginess. The traits that we most clearly see in another are also strong in ourselves. The traits that we rub up against shed light on those parts of ourselves that we’d prefer to tuck away.

[Tweet ““The measure of your enlightenment is your level of comfort with your own paradoxes.” Vedic Seers”]

To embrace all the parts of our partners and recognise our capacity to project those very same qualities fosters compassion and clear communication. Both are keys to a strong, healthy relationship with lasting power.

I’m buzzing after watching this and think I might watch it again and give a few of his books a whirl.

Love love love love this!! I think so many people fail to identify the specific blocks that are holding them back. Once they are identified, it is so much easier to move forward!

Yes, absolutely. It’s quite a process to look at the sides of yourself kept tucked away, but the reward is sheer joy and freedom to step into your power.x

Nice job! I love the quote about heal the boy and the man will appear. So tired of the pessimists that insist it’s all over for a child who doesn’t get the right stuff before age three. Cheers—
