You don’t need to be a spiritual guru or a practicing monk to understand how beautifully simple this is. You just need to learn to turn down the noise and tune in to how something makes you feel. Your feelings are the barometer to understanding the frequency you’re vibrating with – and you’re dealing with them all the time, cos you’re human. True story.
Ever felt the tension lingering in the air after two people have had an argument? It’s awkward and palpable and messes with your mood.
Notice how you feel all eager to get-the-hell-outta-here when a slimy sales person preys on you while you’re shopping? Gross.
Your incredibly clever body picks up on these subtle energy shifts and works to protect you. You are that powerful. Cool huh?
You will pick up the energy of other people (because, human), and it’s easy to get bogged down carrying around other people’s ‘stuff’.
Note: you do not need to carry around anyone else’s baggage.
I’ve compiled a list of my favourite ways to cleanse yourself and your space to ensure that you’re only inviting in high vibrational energy.
11 ways to clear your energetic field
This Indigenous American tradition calls on the spirit energy of plants to drive away negative energy and restore balance. Negative energy is sticky and moves slowly causing you to feel stuck and heavy. Headaches, flat moods and nightmares are common when there is crappy energy in your energetic space.

2. Choose a crystal
These pretty things are alive and teeming with earth’s energy which promote feelings of relaxation and grounding. The healing properties of crystals are varied and they relate beautifully to the energetic centres of the body (chakras). You’ll find that the lighter colour crystals are excellent for helping you tap into your own intuitive powers and the darker colours assist you in grounding yourself and your energy. My favourites are Citrine, Selenite and Blue lace agate.

3. Clean out your space.
Energy needs to flow freely and a good, physical clean out of your home is the perfect way to clear away stagnant energy. Also, clearing away clutter and things you no longer need or use opens you up to bringing in new items. Clean surfaces with non-chemical cleaning solutions – a mix of water, cleaning vinegar and a few drops of lemon or essentials oils is great.
Vacuum carpets and rugs with a sprinkling of baking soda. Wash all clothes and bed linens. Clean out wardrobes, bookshelves, storage cupboards, the pantry and fridge. Get rid of anything out of date and restock with good, fresh colourful food.
4. Visualise your newly cleansed energy field
Knowing how you want to feel is key here.Think about the energy you want to give out, understanding that what you give out dictates what you allow in.
Do you want to feel feminine? Powerful? Sexy? Healthy? Happy? Vibrant?
Imaging yourself in settings that evoke these feelings for you, Build a vision board for them or sit quietly in meditation for 5-10 minutes with your focus honed in on those feelings. Remember the universe is responding to the vibration you’re emitting.
It only takes 17 seconds of clear focus to set the law of attraction in motion and 60 seconds for things (energy) to start moving and manifesting.
Use this to your advantage!
5. Wash it off
Water contains negative ions which influence many amazing biochemical and behavioural reactions in humans. A lot of drugs given to those with mood disorders (depression, anxiety etc) work to block the uptake of positive ions which are known to cause irritability, tension and migraines.
In short, the effect of negative ions in water balance out our energetic fields and also increase the bioavailability of serotonin = happy!
Jump in the shower, the bath, the ocean or play in the rain. It’s all good 😉
6. White Light
An oldie but a goodie – it’s said that white light can be a bit strong for some so golden light is a great one to use.
You can really use any colour – have a quick read about how colours evoke different emotions. Pink promotes love and is a perfect for children.
Picture your chosen coloured light coming in through the top of your head and moving down through your body and out through your feet, then up around your back and in front of you until you have made a mental bubble.
The energy of the colour keeps your energy field protected from any funk.
7. Choose an intention or guiding word.
Thoughts become things because they carry energy, and what we are constantly telling ourselves often becomes reality. Words are weapons – choose and use them wisely.
8. Remove yourself from people and place that you don’t vibe with.
You need to protect your own energy and that means walking when people or places that have a stuffy, blocking effect on you. If you feel you can’t leave the person/people/place then choose and use one of the above methods until you can.
Note: Guilt can creep in when we start to exert our power to remove ourselves from people and situations that aren’t our vibrational match. Remind yourself that you don’t owe anybody an explanation, you just protect your magic baby!
9. Alone time for sanity and safety (of others 😉 )
Get outside. Go grab a coffee. Go for a run. Binge watch something on Netflix. Read. Sleep. Surf the web. Cook. Play. Sing. Dance. Just do it solo.
This will give you a chance to recalibrate and get back into your own groove.
10. Get outside
Mama Nature as a magical way of restoring balance to everything. Exercise is my favourite for shaking off funky energy. Sweating is a built in cleanser and pumping endorphins are the bomb.com.
Happy muscles, happy heart, flushed cheeks, toned body and good mood.

Grounding is a popular way to reconnect with the natural energies of the Earth and nature as our bare feet absorb this vibrational energy and match it’s rhythms.
Get outside and plant your bare feet in the grass or soil to rebalance.
